I have been involved with the Green Party since 2000 and Elizabeth May never ceases to amaze me. Finally, the Greens get their own Member of Parliament, the first one ever using our ancient first past the post voting system.
Is this a reason to celebrate ? In most ways yes. Finally, breaking through the barrier in to Ottawa has been a long time coming. For many Greens this will mark the end of a long wait and the start of something new. We are now entering uncharted territory, it's a little scary to think we can do it, but do it we must.
As for the Blair Wilson the man, I do not know him other than what I read in the news. There is something vindictive about an anonymous tip to Elections Canada, in politics you can piss off people just by being yourself. I'm sure the issues are complicated and personal. Regardless, this is a symbolic gesture of grand proportions and Canadian political history has been made in this gesture.
The voters of British Columbia now face the daunting possibility of three elections between now and May 12, 2009. This will stretch all political parties' resources to their limits, particularly we Greens who still like to get involved at all levels. Possibly, we may see an influx of volunteers and interest due to the Blair Wilson addition, it would be nice to have a few more constituency offices and people to sit in them.
Today I'm off to the Green Party open house down at Hastings and Cambie. The modest office space is home to both the federal and provincial party offices, the food is good and I have good idea what the main subject will be around the water cooler today.

Was thinking about voting for the Greens, you can forget it now with Wilson in there....I thought the Greens had integrity and ethics? Greens will find out what a dumb move this was. He is probably one of the most disrepected politicians in his riding and HE DOESN't WORK hard for us. Check out his record, it speaks for itself. As Bill good said when he had Wilson on his program, his family life is a mess and his financial status obmismal. Wait till the campaigning starts we'll have to hear all over again about his tarnished past and present. Whenever his name's brought up it's always with the notation he was "kicked out of the Liberals" and numerous other horrible comments. Desparation is not always a good thing. Greens you look deparate and this doesn't support you as a legitimate possibility. I'm dissappointed. Careful the company that you keep.
C'mon you were never going to vote Green. The Greens have to strategise as political parties do, they cannot change the system of how politics operate.
Regardless of who or what Blair Wilson has done and most of it seems to be media depicted, this is a good move for the Greens, particularly if it gets Elizabeth in the debate - probably a guaranteed 10-15% increase in the vote.
